Forgotten Genre Productions

Tony (Anthony) Guyer is the owner and operator of Forgotten Genre Productions, a skilled recording and mixing engineer with years of experience in live sound and road management. He grew up in the Lancaster area but spent a significant amount of time in Papua New Guinea, where his parents work for Wycliffe Bible Translators.

Early in his life Tony was involved in live sound productions for local Lancaster bands (Rainchildren, Jawbone Hill) and then took a series of jobs working on tours for Nashville-based acts such as The Waiting, The Normals, Big Tent Revival, and Sixpence None the Richer, for whom he worked as Road Manager.

We met Tony when he had moved back to the area and began working with Hiram Ring in 2006 to record an EP. Tony currently records/mixes local musicians/bands, works in pro-audio sales for Guitar Center, and keeps a blog (http://www.forgottengenre.com) where he catalogs and comments on current trends in recording, shares thoughts on culture, and touches on music-related topics. His advice, knowledge and abilities have been invaluable over the last few years.

Of Whales

Hiram recently recorded a couple songs with ‘Of Whales’, which will be available as soon as Mark at Workingman’s Productions can get them mastered. Hiram also recorded some video of the final session, and as he posts on his blog:

“‘Of Whales’ is the name of Josey Shawgo’s musical endeavors – he’s a singer-songwriter who approached me through a friend about recording some of his songs. The songs have a distinct folky sound, kind of Bob Dylan meets M. Ward. It’s been cool working with him and the friends he brought along to the session last weekend – below is a video of us getting guitar parts, drums, and a last vocal take.”

What is Ring Records?

We are a music recording and publishing company based in Lancaster, PA. Our primary engineer moonlights as a performer, producer, and recording artist with international experience. Visit Hiram Ring’s website for more info about his music.

This site is for information about current projects Ring Records is involved with, musings about the recording process and other random paraphernalia that may occur to our staff. If you like a word that began with ‘pa’ in the last sentence, stay tuned. More of that on the way…
